Super Science Camps
Get your budding scientists ready for exploring, discovering, and learning fun! We have programs to satisfy the most curious of minds and bring out the scientist in your child! Whether they are curious about robotics, enjoy solving mysteries or want to explore infinity and beyond, we have a class that will satisfy them!
All classes meet Monday—Friday 9:00—12:00
$80 ECSC Members $90 ECSC Non-Members.
**For a full day (9am - 4pm) of structured activity the Emerald Coast Science
Center has partnered with the Emerald Coast Sailing Association to facilitate
a half day enrollment
for
each camp. A camp counselor will escort attendees between the two camps

Junior Scientist Academies
Ages 6—8
June 14—18 Mysteries of Outer Space (code JS-1)
Explore the solar system and discover the planets, from tiny Mercury
to gigantic Jupiter. We’ll build rockets and shoot them into the sky
and create models of satellites. Learn about constellations as you
make your own with glow-in-the-dark paint and beads. We’ll visit Mars
and the Moon using lessons designed by NASA.
June 21—25 Science Center Greatest Hits (Code JS-2)
We’ve got a week full of the best science activities the Emerald Coast
Science Center has to offer. Your young scientist will get creative
with chemistry, stimulate their senses, dig for dinosaurs and so much
more.
June 28—July 2 The Nature Academy (Code JS-3)
Build a back yard birdhouse, dissect an owl pellet, explore organisms
found in the Santa Rosa Sound and learn about insects! Young scientists
will learn how to use a microscope to look at the tiny life forms that
our eyes can’t see.
July 12—16 Days of the Dinosaurs (Code JS-4)
How big was Argentinosaurus? What did Spinosaurus eat? What was the first
dinosaur ever discovered? What is a fossil? These are just some of the
questions that will be answered as we discover the world of dinosaurs.
We will even go on a dinosaur hunt and make dinosaur fossils!
July 19-23 Lego Engineering for Beginners
(Code JS-5)
This class will teach you the basics in engineering and building using
LEGOS. Learn about simple machines and how placing LEGO bricks in certain
patterns make your structures stronger. We will also explore gears and
how they can make machines move.
July 26—30 Sea Science Adventures (Code JS-6)
You will examine the ocean world and all its wonders using the Santa
Rosa Sound and other organisms from the gulf. Activities include collection
of live animals using nets and beachcombing, examining preserved ocean
specimen, learning to use a microscope, as well as many other fun ocean-related
games and crafts.
July 26—30 Lego Engineering for Beginners (Code JS-7) (1:00 - 4:00)
This class will teach you the basics in engineering and building using

Intermediate Scientist Academies
Ages 9-11
June 14—18 (9:00—12:00) The Big Dig
(Code IS-1)
Come join us as we learn how to uncover the past. You’ll learn techniques
that archaeologists use for safely handling artifacts as well as the
science used to learn about these finds. Come get down and dirty with
this exciting new class.
June 21—25 (9:00—12:00) Inside Our Body (Code IS-2)
Learn all about what’s really inside your body and how it works. You’ll
use microscopes, create models, and much more. If you ever thought
about being a doctor, nurse or veterinarian this program is for you
because, you’ll head “straight to the heart” of the matter by actually
dissecting other animals.
June 21-25 (1:00—4:00) Creepers of the Deep (Code IS-3)
Some scientists say that we know less about the ocean floor than the
surface of the moon. We plan to uncover many mysteries of the deep
as we study the creatures, geology, and special locations that exists
miles below the ocean’s surface. We’ll also dive into some local marine
science and check out the water quality of and what resides in our
own Santa Rosa Sound.
June 28—July 2 (9:00 –12:00) Crime Scene Investigators (Code IS-4)
One of our most popular classes year in, year out is back and better
than ever. You’ll learn how to diagram a crime scene and identify and
tag pieces of evidence. We’ll stick it to the criminals as we learn how
the process of (simulated) blood typing. Each day will have a new puzzle
that you will solve with the techniques of a CSI.
July 12-16 (9:00-12:00) Science Center Greatest Hits Volume
II (Code IS-5)
Stand back and get ready for some really cool experiments. Each day you’ll
tackle a new topic including chemistry, physics, earth science, life
science, and environmental science. This will be a week of discovery!
July 12-16 (1:00—4:00) Stained Glass Science (Code IS-6)
Back by popular demand! Get your creative juices flowing as you learn
about animals and make stained glass art of the animals at the same
time. By the end of the week you will have a masterpiece to bring home
and display with pride, plus you’ll have learned something too.
July 19-23 (9:00-12:00) Lego Robotics for Beginners (Code IS-7)
Let’s get those LEGOS moving. Come
learn how to build a LEGO Mindstorm robot and learn how to program
it. In this fun filled class your team
will design a Mindstorm robot and program it to navigate an obstacle
course. In the end, you will compete with the other teams to see whose
robot reigns.
July 19-23 (1:00—4:00) Lego Construction
(code IS-8)
Create structures and learn about engineering in a fun and hands on way.
This class will teach you about simple machines and the basics of engineering.
Using LEGOS you will plan and build different types of structures and
learn the engineering principles behind how to make them structurally
sound. Part of our building experience will be creating an obstacle
course for the LEGO robot to navigate. While there is a similarly titled
class for the Junior Scientists, this class is geared up for the Intermediate
Scientist.
July 26-July 30 (9:00—12:00) Advanced Lego Robotics (Code
IS-9)
In this advanced class you will learn even more about programming and
robotics using LEGO Mindstorm technology. Using the constructed obstacle
course from the construction course you will program and compete to see
whose robot can navigate the best. This class is designed for Intermediate
Scientists who have taken our Lego Robotics for Beginners class either
last summer or this summer or who have experience with Lego Mindstorm
robots.
Senior Scientist Academy
Ages 12-14
July 26-30 (1:00-4:00) Lego Robotics for Middle School Students
(Code SS)
A new faster-paced class designed specifically for middle school students
who have an interest in robotics. Experience not required, but enthusiasm
is!
