Animal Spotlight: Albert Einspine

June 9, 2018

Albert Einspine, our 6 month old Albino African Pygmy Hedgehog, is fitting right in with all of our other animals. Albert is named after Albert Einstein (1879-1955), a German-born theoretical physicist who developed the theory of relativity and is best known for his mass-energy equivalence formula: E=mc2.

Albert is nocturnal and known to be highly energetic, especially at night! His wheel is his favorite thing to run on, and if he ever sees you while he's running he immediately stops. He's a little shy when it comes to exercising in front of people.

His face and belly is covered in soft fur, but his back and the top of his head are covered with spines. Albert's spines and fur are both white and his skin is pink, both due to him being albino. His eyes are also a red-brown color, while other hedgehogs usually have a dark black eye color. Unlike porcupines, Albert's spines do not have barbs on the tips, so you can pet him and it won't hurt one bit.

Albert is one of the many animals we take out for our Creature Features (2pm, Mon-Fri) to teach kids and their parents more about them. From snakes to sugar gliders, we have a variety of animals that we can bring awareness to.

Make this grumpy hedgehog happy by stopping by and seeing him at one of our Creature Features soon!
