Lessons tailored to grades 1st-5th

We  invite all young explorers (ages 6-12) to take part in our Homeschool Science Academy.  Students will  participate in hands-on science lessons designed to foster a life-long love for science. 

Classes scheduled for the 3rd Monday & Tuesday of the month (through May)

9:00 am-1:00 pm

The same lesson is taught on both days

Cost per session

$45 members / $50 nonmembers 

$15 off each additional sibling

Additional information

Students will need to bring their own lunch

Students must be at a first grade reading level

This is a drop-off program

Preregistration is required

Please ensure your registration forms have been submitted and tickets purchased. You can fill out our registration form below and either email it to website@ecscience.org or bring it with you to the workshop. If you wish to register for multiple classes at once, please email website@ecscience.org with your completed registration form and the dates you'd like to sign up for to be invoiced. Your child's spot in the workshop is not confirmed until payment is processed.

Cancellation & Refund Policy

Cancellations made 48 hours or more in advance of the event date will incur a 10% administrative fee. Cancellations made within 48 hours of the event will incur a 30% administrative fee. There will be no refunds offered for missed classes without notice.

Step Up Scholarship Policy

The museum is not a Step Up/PEP provider. However, we can provide an invoice for reimbursement after payment is complete, but classes must be registered for via invoice in order to receive this. To register for classes via invoice, email your preferred class dates, child's name and age, and Science Center membership status to website@ecscience.org. For the security and privacy of our staff, we are unable to provide individual diplomas or certificates; instead, instructor credentials and LinkedIn profile link are listed directly on the reimbursement invoice. Reimbursement invoices can only be provided once classes are paid for.

August 17th & 18th: Rock You Like a Hurricane

Can fire ever be a force for good? When a volcano erupts, who benefits? Find out with answers that might surprise you! Through fun, hands-on, activities kids will learn about the beneficial side not often seen about hurricanes, floods, and more of our most famous natural events.

 September 21st & 22nd: Marvelous Mammals

Fur, pouches, and even egg-laying mammals, what makes them all part of the same family? In this hands-on workshop, kids will examine different fur like wildlife biologists, discover how some mammals' coats change with the seasons to help them survive, build their own echidna, and more while exploring the incredible diversity of mammals from around the world.

October 19th & 20th: The Power of Circuits

Discover the science behind the flip of a switch! Students will explore what electrical circuits are, how energy travels through connected pathways, and why complete circuits are needed for electricity to flow. Through hands-on challenges using ExBLOX, students will build and test different circuit connections, experimenting with switches, lights, and other components to see energy in action as their creations come to life.

November 16th & 17th: Wild Florida

Discover the wild side of the Sunshine State! Explore Florida's unique ecosystems, uncover the history behind the name La Florida, and create a Florida state butterfly to take home. From forests and springs to beaches and wetlands, we'll celebrate the science, history, and incredible wildlife that make Florida one of a kind.

December 14th & 15th: Watershed Investigation*

Every drop has a story to tell! Students will become watershed investigators as they gather evidence, solve an environmental mystery, and discover how water moves through the world around us. Along the way, they’ll explore the science of watersheds, ecosystems, and water conservation through hands-on STEAM activities.

January 25th & 26th: Secrets of the Pharaohs*

Travel back to Ancient Egypt to explore the incredible engineering feats, inventions, and innovations of this fascinating civilization. Students will discover how ancient Egyptians built monuments, solved problems, and used creativity to shape their world before becoming engineers themselves by creating a light-up circuit scarab crown inspired by Egyptian symbols and technology.

 February 22nd & 23rd: Solar Science*

Get ready to shine a light on the science of the Sun! Explore the science behind our closest star as you investigate how sunlight powers our planet, influences the weather, and even cooks food. Students will design and test their own solar ovens then create a colorful solar suncatcher while discovering the incredible energy of the Sun through these engaging STEAM activities and investigations.

 March 22nd & 23rd: Prehistoric Animals*

Travel back in time to discover the fascinating world of prehistoric animals. Young paleontologists will explore amazing species from long ago, learn how fossils are formed, and uncover hidden creatures during their own mini fossil dig. This hands-on expedition is packed with discovery, exploration, and prehistoric excavations.

April 19th & 20th:  Accidental Inventions

Everybody makes mistakes, even scientists! Students will explore how and why some of our favorite and useful things were invented by accident in a fun “guess the invention” game. They will also recreate their own version of one of these happy accidents while learning that mistakes can be opportunities for discovery.

May 17th & 18th: Back to Basics: Science Edition

Step into the scientific world by exploring the fundamental steps that lead to scientific discoveries. Students will use the scientific method as they ask questions, make predictions, test ideas, and record observations through a variety of hands-on experiments while exploring a wide range of scientific topics. They will also discover the fascinating world of DNA by learning what it is, why it is important, and extracting DNA from strawberries to observe this essential molecule up close.
