About The Event

Our student scientists explore science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics during hands-on, creative workshops. Maker Days gives learners the opportunity to create, construct, and make something new at each session.

Maker Days is a drop-off program, and as such it allows many of our home school students to interact with our educators and other students in a classroom setting. These classes are designed to engage, stimulate, encourage, and challenge young children with hands on exploration using a typical class arrangement.

Please send your child with a snack or light lunch as food is not provided.

First Monday & Tuesday of Each Month

9:00 am-12:00 pm

The same lesson is taught on both days

Cost

$35 Members/$40 Nonmembers

$10 off additional siblings

Preregistration is required

Please ensure your registration forms have been submitted and tickets purchased. You can fill out our registration form below and either email it to website@ecscience.org or bring it with you to the workshop. If you wish to register for multiple classes at once, please email website@ecscience.org with your completed registration form and the dates you'd like to sign up for to be invoiced. Your child's spot in the workshop is not confirmed until payment is processed.

Cancellation & Refund Policy

Cancellations made 48 hours or more in advance of the event date will incur a 10% administrative fee. Cancellations made within 48 hours of the event will incur a 30% administrative fee. There will be no refunds offered for missed classes without notice.

Step Up Scholarship Policy

The museum is not a Step Up/PEP provider. However, we can provide an invoice for reimbursement after payment is complete, but classes must be registered for via invoice in order to receive this. To register for classes via invoice, email your preferred class dates, child's name and age, and Science Center membership status to website@ecscience.org. For the security and privacy of our staff, we are unable to provide individual diplomas or certificates; instead, instructor credentials and LinkedIn profile link are listed directly on the reimbursement invoice. Reimbursement invoices can only be provided once classes are paid for.

2026-2027 Class Topics

August 10th & 11th: Wedges, Levers, & Pulleys Oh My*

Hard hats on- it’s time to build! With interactive stations and fun games, kids will be able to understand and recognize how simple machines make everyday tasks easier by helping us lift, move and build. Then they will become engineers as they design, build, and test their own marble maze, all while using creativity and critical thinking to overcome challenges.

August 31 & September 1st:  Spin, Sculpt, & Create*

There’s more to clay than meets the eye. In this interactive pottery workshop, children will experiment with different ways to shape and design clay exploring the creativity behind ceramic art. They’ll sculpt their own clay creature, try their hand at throwing a pinch pot on the pottery wheel, and discover how imagination and craftsmanship come together to create something truly unique.

October 5th & 6th: Blueprints of the Wild

Explore the incredible ways animals use engineering to survive! Students will discover incredible feats of animal engineering like how spiders spin strong webs and how ants work together to build living bridges before putting their own engineering skills to the test with hands-on building challenges. Along the way, they'll explore concepts like strength, stability, teamwork, and biomimicry as they learn how nature inspires human engineering.

November 2nd & 3rd: Recycled Creations

Create with a purpose! In this workshop, kids will explore sustainability by sorting what can be recycled, composted, or discarded, then put their learning into action. They'll make recycled paper seed bombs and upcycle plastic bottles into beautiful bright suncatchers.

December 7th & 8th: The Power of Air

Get ready to create, experiment, and let your ideas soar. In this workshop, kids will get to build a mini lung model, engineer flying creations to test in a wind tube, and investigate the invisible force all around us. Through hands-on activities, they'll explore air pressure, lift, drag, and Bernoulli's Principle.

January 4th & 5th: Florida’s Earliest Scientists

Explore Florida’s earliest scientists! Through hands-on exploration, kids will learn how Florida’s Native American communities used STEAM to shape their daily lives. In this interactive class, we will explore tribal agriculture, engineer canoes, and create a weaving all inspired by traditional techniques.

February 1st & 2nd: Make It Spin

Get your creativity spinning! In this workshop kids will get to build a spinning top toy, make a Newton's Disc, and experiment with the science of spinning objects. Through creative STEAM activities, they'll uncover concepts like balance, rotation, inertia, and angular momentum.

March 1st & 2nd: Bubble Science

There’s more to bubbles than meets the eye… Design and build your own custom bubble wand as you think like an engineer: testing, improving, and discovering how different designs affect the bubbles you create. Through hands-on STEAM challenges and exciting activities, students will explore the fascinating science behind all things bubbly!

April 5th & 6th: Paint It Out Color Lab

Investigate the colorful side of science! Create your own color wheel and masterful art pieces as you investigate the science of pigments, perception, and light. Through fun experiments and activities, students will investigate light, pigments, color mixing, and the surprising ways our eyes and brains work together to put together the colorful world around us.

May 3rd & 4th: Retro Makers

Take a trip back to the 90s and discover the inventions, gadgets, and trends that made the decade unforgettable. Students will explore the science and engineering behind everyday designs like creating their own slap bracelet and duct tape wallet. Not only will they leave with unique creations, new skills, but a fresh appreciation for the clever ideas that shaped a generation.
