Pathways: Middle School Workshop

We  invite all students ages 11-14 to our Pathways program. With these workshops, home school students will design, build, and test new  challenges. These challenges will help students explore career pathways across STEM disciplines. Each month in our workshops, we'll explore a new topic.

Sign up via our events page or call 850-664-1261. Please bring a completed registration form below with you to your child's first workshop or email it to website@ecscience.org. If you wish to register for multiple classes at once, please email website@ecscience.org with your completed registration form and the dates you'd like to sign up for to be invoiced. Your child's spot in the workshop is not confirmed until payment is processed.

Cancellation & Refund Policy

Cancellations made 48 hours or more in advance of the event date will incur a 10% administrative fee. Cancellations made within 48 hours of the event will incur a 30% administrative fee. There will be no refunds offered for missed classes without notice.

Step Up Scholarship Policy

The museum is not a Step Up/PEP provider. However, we can provide an invoice for reimbursement after payment is complete, but classes must be registered for via invoice in order to receive this. To register for classes via invoice, email your preferred class dates, child's name and age, and Science Center membership status to website@ecscience.org. For the security and privacy of our staff, we are unable to provide individual diplomas or certificates; instead, instructor credentials and LinkedIn profile link are listed directly on the reimbursement invoice.

Upcoming Workshops 2026-2027

September 1st: Zoology: Wildlife Blueprints

Students will journey into the world of animal science as they investigate, identify, and design for different organisms. Using dichotomous keys, students will become zoologists as they analyze unique traits and classify animals before putting their creativity and engineering skills to work by designing and building a custom zoo habitat. Through hands-on exploration, students will discover how an animal’s adaptations, needs, and environment influence the way habitats are created and maintained.

October 6th: Theatrical Tech & Design

Step into the world of Technical Theater and see how science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) brings our favorite theatrical shows and movies to life. Students will discover how to use angles and color to create mood through light, understand ratio and scale to design a set, and more! This interactive class will take a peek behind the curtain, opening a pathway where science and art are one and the same.

November 3rd: Electric Ocean

Dive into the technology behind marine exploration by building and testing out a working radio and then create an illuminated table top ROV simulator while discovering how scientists communicate and move through the deep blue for research.

December 8th: Drop Zone: The Engineering Challenge

Get ready to explore the invisible force all around us and discover how engineers use air, motion, and design to solve problems. Students will investigate concepts like air resistance, gravity, and impact forces as they design, build, and test their own egg drop inventions. Through trial and error, students will apply the engineering design process to create a device that protects an egg from a high-impact landing.

January 5th: Diagnosis Detectives

Discover the science behind modern medicine! Explore the human body, discover medical breakthroughs, and complete a blood type investigation to see how science and medical technology work together to improve lives. Students may take on an additional diagnostic challenge and analyze evidence to solve a simulated medical case.

February 2nd: Design, Drive, Discover

Students will explore the science of motion, energy, and engineering as they design and build their own rubber band-powered cars. Through hands-on challenges, they’ll investigate how forces, friction, and design choices affect movement before putting their skills to the test with robot cars and exciting engineering missions. Students will use creativity, problem-solving, and the engineering design process to optimize their vehicles and tackle real-world challenges.

March 2nd: Soap & Suds Science

Fizz, foam, and fun await! Students will explore the science behind bath bombs and soap as they discover how chemical reactions, mixtures, and ingredients work together to create colorful, scented creations. Through hands-on activities, they'll make their own bath bombs and handcrafted soaps while learning how these everyday products are designed and made.

April 6th: Chromatic Curiosity

Color is everywhere, but there’s more to it than meets the eye! Investigate the fascinating science behind perception, pigments, and light through exciting STEAM experiments and creative exploration. Experiment with color filters, engineer your own spectroscope, and uncover the surprising science hidden in every shade.

May 4th: Engineer the Fun

Game on! Explore the world of mechanical and electrical engineering by learning how engineers design and test games that challenge players, then build your own steady-hand buzz wire game and wooden pucket game to put your design skills into action.
