Get Up Close with Our Animals
Beginning June 3, join our Creature Features every Monday through Friday at 2 p.m. We are home to over 40 animals, so whether it's cute and cuddly or scaled and slithering, we have a wide variety of critters to learn about. However, they all have one thing in common--they love showing our guests how awesome they are. Our trained educators provide safe encounters to give our guests one-of-a-kind experiences with these unique animals. Access to Creatures Features is included with general admission.
Be Surprised by Science
We really like making a lasting impression on our guests, and we find lighting things on fire or small-scale explosions helps us accomplish this goal. Our Chem Demos give guests a safe viewing experience during our 'Mad Scientist' moments. Join our chemists at 1 p.m. every Wednesday through Friday and be wowed when you witness awesome feats of science. Chem Demos begin June 5 and are also included with general admission.
Dive in to the SMALLab Experience
With SMALLab, you can experience cutting-edge science magic. A system of infrared cameras track your movement while you play on a 15x15 grid, completing activities together as a family or mixing things up with some healthy competition (no judging here). Whether it's a fun game of Memory trying to matching our animals, debating Marvel vs DC characters, or learning a new language, SMALLab has a lesson for just about everything...and they're so much fun you don't even realize you're learning! You'll be up, moving and immersed in enjoyment, we promise.
We'll have SMALLab open to the public from 12 - 2 p.m. Monday through Friday beginning June 4. This one is great for ALL ages since there are so many different types of games. Just be sure to bring socks--the SMALLab mat is a shoe-free zone. You can call to register ahead of time or sign up on our event page to book your spots for SMALLab. Registration is not required to enjoy SMALLab, but space is limited inside the exhibit room, so reserving your spot will ensure you get a chance to dive into SMALLab.
Looking for Workshops?
We have our Makerspace DREAMS Lab open every Wednesday through Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. beginning June 5. Each week during the summer, guests can enjoy a new pop-up activity in our Makerspace that allows them to tinker, explore, and get creative with hands-on challenges.
We also have a drop-off option with our Summer STEAM Workshops. These take place every Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for ages 5-12 beginning June 4 and running through July 30.
Kids will get the chance to explore a wide variety of topics with hands-on, interactive lessons that give them the opportunity to spend their vacation on a science adventure! From playing with robots, to experiencing the excitement of SMALLab learning, and journeying through space, we're having tons of fun this summer. Camp time includes the lessons listed on our camp webpage, a half an hour of free play in the museum, plus a 20-minute lunch break.
