Discover STEM Careers and Mentors at Women in Science

Updated: Aug 23

Interested in learning more about career and education pathways in science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM)? Then don't miss our Women in Science Conference September 19 at The Place on Beal in Fort Walton Beach. At the event, guests will have the opportunity to hear from women in professional STEM fields right here in Okaloosa County, as they enlighten our audience about their careers and deliver advice (think a mini TED Talk). This is an excellent event for students of all ages and genders to receive firsthand advice and information from local STEM professionals.

Our speakers this year include:

  • Stacia Hurt, Senior Principal Systems Engineer II, BAE Systems

  • Kristen Shell, Deputy City Manager, City of Niceville

  • Dr. Amanda Davis, Owner and Family Nurse Practitioner, SANE.Medical LLC

  • Natalie Sullivan, Technical Director and Microbiologist, Analytical Services Corp

  • Allison Beauregard Schwartz, Director of the Office of Undergraduate Research, University of West Florida

  • Cheylin Woodruff, Marine Biology student, University of West Florida

This year, our speakers will discuss what inspired them to pursue careers in STEM fields, their role models, groundbreaking career moments, how they have overcome challenges as women in STEM, and offer advice to young women interested in STEM careers and educations. Along with a brief intermission to allow guests to mingle with our speakers, the event will also include a Question and Answer panel with all our speakers. Guests can use this time to ask any or all of our speakers questions they have about their careers, pathways, and educations. Past events have helped young students find mentors to help them through their career and educational pursuits, so if you're curious about what its like to work in STEM, this is definitely an event you want to attend. Check out photos from our previous conferences in the slideshow to the left!

Our event will be held at The Place on Beal, at 100 Beal Pkwy NW in Fort Walton. We'll also be providing light refreshments at the event, so be sure to arrive by 5:30 p.m. and plan for an inspiring evening discovering STEM careers and advice on how to enter the field. Tickets for adults are $10, and all students are free, but students will still need to register for the event to ensure we are not over capacity. Get your tickets today! For those who cannot attend in person, we also have a Zoom virtual ticket option available.
