This past Saturday, September 30th, was our 5th year participating in Destin Common's annual Smoke on the Coast Festival! With Bow Tie BBQ and Catering on our side as our barbecue partners, our hard-working staff, and some very special volunteers, we had our best year participating.
This year we picked another theme that we could tie to the Science Center: Dinosaurs! That's right, we pulled out all the stops to make the world of Jurassic Park come to life on the streets of Destin Commons. We brought our favorite animal ambassadors, including Sebastian the Tortoise, hatched dinosaur fizzy eggs, and embraced our inner paleontologist to solve the Mystery Fossil Find. All these efforts won us First Place for the Most Spirited Award! 🦖
Bowtie BBQ and Catering served up some delicious brisket for the judges this year and received Fifth Place for Judge's Pick! Their barbecue has placed each year in Judge's Pick, so we weren't surprised when they were called up to receive this outstanding award. The pulled pork they served to the public was so flavorful that many attendees came back for seconds! As always, Dan and his team killed it.
We cannot thank the Esposito family enough for volunteering their time not only to create intricate decorations to make our tent go from drab to dino-mite, but also for supporting us during the event as well. We're already talking about what theme we want to pick for next year--so make sure you'll be at the 13th Annual Smoke on the Coast Festival!
